If ever in San Francisco, skip the lines at Fisherman's warf, avoid the sunburn from the rooftop tour bus, and put on your walking shoes. Hayes Valley is located in the main vein of San Francisco's layout and we promise, you will find a unique assortment of fashion, home decor, character and ice cream (Smitten!). One of our favorites- H.D. Buttercup's new storefront- In Bed. We sat down with shop manager Carly Young to hear her take on the west coast store that is taking on styledecorative pillow cases, one bed-head at a time.

Q:How did the store start?

Carly: In Bed started as a unique boutique concept store. We have hand selected the best linens and mattresses from all over the world and brought them to one place. To us, the bed is more than a place to sleep. In bed, we entertain, reflect, restore, seduce, create and dream. Our shop is carefullycurated and edited with this in mind, with an assortment of the softest, coziest, modern-cottage styles to the finest Italiansateens and timeless classics.

What is the neighborhood like?

Carly: Hayes valley is a small tight community, all the neighbors and business owners know each other- it is very welcoming.

Q:Why did you choose the bay area?

Carly: I left Montana tostudy atThe Art Institutemajoring inInterior Design with a focus on sustainable design. I was attracted to the collective creativity and the energy of the city.

Q:What are your favorite things about running a local business?

Carly: Particularly in my retail environment I get to know and help people through all stages of their life: From the college grad buying their first mattress, to the couple expanding their family, or relieving customers with severe allergies. A large part of my job is also educating the general public about materials, and the joy of natural, organic textiles.

Q: Where do you see the store in five years?

Carly: I would love to see our store have some online presence. For me, growing up and working in Montana, I know that some things are not available to everyone. The idea of pop up shops around the country and working with artisans to expand our brand would be a fun next chapter.

Q:What is your favoriteCoyuchi product?

Carly: I just bought the Muslin Swaddling blankets for a baby shower. I sleep with the Rustic Herringbone Duvet cover, perfect weight for San Francisco weather!

Q:What does the term intentional lifestyle mean to you?

Carly: Living with a purpose and a driven focus for what you believe in. With simple bedding and mattresses, I have the privilege of changing people's lives on a daily basis. It may not be the job I thought I would have but this store is still at the root of what I believe, selling honest, clean, well madegoods with the finest materials-and I am honored to work in such an environment.

One of my favorite traditional wedding substitutions has been taffy tasting instead of cake tasting. We are not cake people and on our big day we’ll all have white chocolate cheesecake. In the meantime, our guests were going to need treats. Our favorite taffy store is in Morro Bay, CA and just 30 minutes from our house. We?planned a date day at the beach, but my goal in the taffy store was to choose a sampling based on colors and theme. Chuck’s goal was to taste as many free samples while we were shopping. Turns out we found flavors like huckleberry, passion fruit, grape, berries & cream, birthday cake, and caramel cheesecake. We purchased 10 of each flavor and brought them home to share with the family for their feedback. Turns out only two unanimous favorites! Passion fruit and birthday cake stood out in our mini taste test while the others were less exciting.
